MATH SUPPORT

 

Year 7 Extra Numeracy Program

Student placement in this class is by invitation but acceptance is optional. Detailed Year 7 transition information from primary schools, Year 5 NAPLAN data and Year 6 Placement Testing is used to identify students requiring additional numeracy assistance. Student are not able to be in both Extra Numeracy and Extra Literacy.
Students who participate in the Extra Numeracy will do so instead of French. The commitment to Extra Numeracy is for both Year 7 and 8. As part of the support offered, Extra Numeracy students will receive explicit instruction to build on their basic mathematical skills and to prepare for NAPLAN 7 at a deeper level.

 

Year 7 Focus Mathematics

Students are placed in this class by reviewing Year 7 transition information from primary schools, Year 5 NAPLAN data and Year 6 Placement Testing. The Focus class is differentiated from mainstream classes only by class size. It follows the same program as the Year 7 mainstream. Class numbers are kept smaller so teachers are able to provide more one on one assistance to students.

 

Year 8 Extra Numeracy Program

Students who were in Extra Numeracy in Year 7 will move through to Extra Numeracy in Year 8. Student are not able to be in both Extra Numeracy and Extra Literacy. Students who participate in the Extra Numeracy will do so instead of French. As part of the support offered, Extra Numeracy students will receive explicit instruction to build on their basic mathematical skills, reinforce areas of need from the Year 7 Mathematics curriculum, strengthen their understanding of the Year 8 Mathematics curriculum and to prepare for NAPLAN 9 at a deeper level.

Students are placed in this class by reviewing their Year 7 results and teacher recommendations. The Focus class is differentiated from mainstream classes only by class size.
