COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAM
This program began in 2007 with Year 10.
Community Service is defined as:
“Activities undertaken for the benefit of others for no material reward”.
The aim of Community Service is to provide opportunities for young people to develop the values, skills and understandings needed to contribute to civic well-being. It will enable students to address many of the core shared values outlined in the “Curriculum Framework”.
Year 10 students need to record the number of hours, service activity, validation details etc in the log book contained in their school diary.
Many Carine SHS students already fulfill this requirement and would only need to have their community service validated through the log book procedure.
The school informs the Curriculum Council of students who have completed at least 20 hours of service. Completion of the community service requirement is reported on the students’ Record of Achievement, issued to Year 12 students. From 2009, this will be a requirement of the Western Australian Certificate of Education.
This program is overseen within the school by the School's Community Service Coordinator. A meeting is held early each year to explain this program and procedures to students and parents.
