Attendance is compulsory until the end of the year in which a student turns 17. Students who wish to take on an apprenticeship, traineeship or full-time employment are required to complete documentation from the Department of Education and Training, through the school.
Student absences are recorded by every teacher during each period of the day. This information is submitted to the Year Centre during the first and last teaching period. Parents are notified when truancy is detected.
It is the parents’ responsibility to see that students attend school.
Where unsatisfactory attendance occurs the West Coast District Office School Welfare Officer will be advised. In more serious cases, the may mean both the parents and student appearing before a panel and prosecution may result
Notification of Absences
Telephone
Notice can be given by telephone (9243-9100) or facsimile (9448-5421) by 9.30am of each day of absence. Advance notice of prolonged absence is appreciated and arrangements may be made for school work to be done.
Absence Notes
A letter of explanation signed by parents/guardians, or a medical certificate, must be provided for all absences. Notes should contain the name and contact group of the student, the date of absence and the reason. The note should be submitted on first day back at school after an absence. Download Attendance Note
Absences of two or more days should be covered by a Medical Certificate.
Late Arrivals
Upon arriving after 9am, students must receive a pass from the Attendance Secretary, situated in the Year Centre, to enter class. Lateness for genuine reasons should be validated by appointment card or parental note. Penalties are applied for students who are persistently late without good reason.
Early Leavers
Students wishing to leave school early must have a request note from home or an appointment card. These should be submitted to the Secretary, situated in the front Office, before school and a pass will be issued.
Transfer to another School
A student who is leaving on transfer to another school or to enter employment must notify the Deputy Principal (Student Services) in writing and complete a clearance form.
Out of Class
Students who need to leave class for any reason must carry an authorized “Out of Class” TRANSIT CARD from their teacher
