MOBILE PHONES POLICY
All students are reminded that having a mobile phone at school is a privilege which will continue only as long as the school policy on mobile phones is followed. This policy is consistent with the recently released policy from the Director General of Education.
The policy states:
The use of any mobile phone function during instruction time at school, by students, or staff, is not permitted. All mobile phones must be turned off during instruction times. Mobile phones can disrupt and distract students and staff in a variety of learning environments and hence are regarded as a safety hazard.
The use of mobile phones in the school yard is permitted provided taking pictures or videos, SMS messaging, copying or sending text, music or images, or making social calls do not occur.
Staff are not responsible for the security of mobile phones brought to school by students and the school takes no responsibility for mobile phones which are lost, misplaced or stolen.
Failure to comply with this policy may see the mobile phone confiscated for a period determined by the school administration. This policy may be reviewed at anytime in the near future.
NOTE:
The posting of images of people without their permission onto the internet, through Youtube, Myspace or the like, or the transfer of images taken without permission of the person whose image has been taken, has the potential of being illegal under the Telecommunications Act and could result in charges being laid by the police.
The use of mobile phone technology to bully another person is not tolerated and severe sanctions will apply in the event of such incidents occurring.
Issues which occur outside school are not to be settled during the school day.
