HOMEWORK

It is essential that students form good study habits from the beginning of high school.

All students are expected to have a School Diary and use it at all times.

Always write down any homework in your diary immediately you receive it.

Teachers are expected to keep a check on students’ homework and communicate with parents through the use of the School Diary when their child has defaulted.

Homework may consist of:

¨    Set work for the night

¨    Completion of classwork

¨    Work on assignments

¨    Memory work

¨    Revision of past work

¨    Reading of reference material and wider reading

¨    Organization of file

Suggested minimum times for homework

Year 8                          7.5 hours per week

Year 9                          10 hours per week

Year 10                        12.5 hours per week
            Years 11 & 12                15 hours per week

HOW TO USE THE SCHOOL DIARY

The diary is to assist in planning the coordination of all aspects of the student’s life:

Work, leisure, sport, recreation – but above all, to organize their homework, study and assignment programs.

STUDENTS SHOULD:

¨    Take the diary to all classes.

¨    Use it to record tests, homework, study schedule and excursions.

¨    Use it to plan a study timetable.

¨    Record special school events, deadlines etc.

¨    Use and refer to the information it contains.

PARENTS MAY:

¨    Use the diary to check the homework given.

¨    Use the diary to communicate messages to staff.
