HOMEWORK
It is essential that students form good study habits from the beginning of high school.
All students are expected to have a School Diary and use it at all times.
Always write down any homework in your diary immediately you receive it.
Teachers are expected to keep a check on students’ homework and communicate with parents through the use of the School Diary when their child has defaulted.
Homework may consist of:
¨ Set work for the night
¨ Completion of classwork
¨ Work on assignments
¨ Memory work
¨ Revision of past work
¨ Reading of reference material and wider reading
¨ Organization of file
Suggested minimum times for homework
Year 8 7.5 hours per week
Year 9 10 hours per week
Year 10 12.5 hours per week
Years 11 & 12 15 hours per week
HOW TO USE THE SCHOOL DIARY
The diary is to assist in planning the coordination of all aspects of the student’s life:
Work, leisure, sport, recreation – but above all, to organize their homework, study and assignment programs.
STUDENTS SHOULD:
¨ Take the diary to all classes.
¨ Use it to record tests, homework, study schedule and excursions.
¨ Use it to plan a study timetable.
¨ Record special school events, deadlines etc.
¨ Use and refer to the information it contains.
PARENTS MAY:
¨ Use the diary to check the homework given.
¨ Use the diary to communicate messages to staff.
