SCHOOL DRESS CODE

The school uniform reflects both the traditions of this school and the desire of the school community to present itself as a purposeful and disciplined entity. It has been negotiated and established over many years by the school’s decision-making bodies involving input from students, parents and staff, and has widespread support and acceptance at all levels of the school community.

We believe that a school uniform establishes and maintains a good school tone and imparts a sense of belonging to and identification with a disciplined and co-operative body committed to the pursuit of excellence.

A uniform minimizes differences between people, be these social, economic, or sub-cultural differences, and discourages unhealthy competition for material status among students. In addition, the wearing of a uniform by those belonging in the school enables staff to identify intruders whose presence at the school may not be entirely innocent.

The Dress Code of Carine SHS reflects the school’s statement of Rights and Responsibilities, which reads:

Students and staff are expected to be responsible for their actions and be prepared to see that the rights of every person in the school are respected.

These rights are:

  • All students and staff have the right to work without being disrupted.
  • All students and staff have the right to be treated with courtesy and respect.
  • All students and staff have the right to work in a clean and safe environment.

Therefore, the standard of dress expected of students will be clean, safe and tidy and will not offend against school standards of modesty and decency.
