Society & Environment Academic Extension Program
The focus of the year eight Society and Environment Departments academic extension program is ancient civilisations. Each term students study a different civilisation and by the end of the year will have produced either a board game, model or power point demonstration on each civilisation.
Years nine and ten students participate in the stock market game run by the Australian Stock Exchange. Syndicates of students are given $50 000 to invest in the stock market. Hopefully! by buying and selling shares they will increase the value of their portfolios. Students meet weekly to discuss current business events e.g. mergers, takeovers, profit statements and dividend issues and government and monetary policies in order to make informed decisions about which shares to buy or sell.
