Information Technology Overview
The Business/Computing Departments offer a wide range of digital experiences. The main focus is on using computers as an educational tool – a way of researching, correlating and presenting knowledge.
The offering of an Introductory Accounting unit in Lower School has proved very popular and useful for students thinking of a career in business and/or accounting. Then again Accounting is one of those skills that prove invaluable in our personal and vocational lives.
Students can select appropriate programs from Microsoft Office Professional:
- Word - word processing
- Access - databases
- Excel - spreadsheets
- Power Point - static or interactive digital presentation
- Publisher - desktop publishing
As tools to help them achieve the objectives of task assigned. They also have access to a large range of subject specific programs for that special effect. Students have their own passworded accounts and personal computer to help them develop skills, their own ideas from set task which encourage solutions that involve a variety of responses to solve problems. Students have restricted access to the Internet as a research/communication tool. Internet issues such as plagiarism, accuracy of content, inappropriate materials and “time wasting” are investigated and evaluated.
Year 11 and 12 CAF (Common Assessment Framework) subjects that offer TAFE certificates of competence are Personal Information Technology, Business Information Technology, Small Business Management. These certificates of competencies will be given at the successful conclusion of the subject. The list of subjects offering certificates will be increased in the near future.
The staff of the Business/Computing department has a focus on promoting the pursuit of excellence. Students are encouraged to enter state and national competitions especially where recognition is given not only to the high achiever but also to students who participate. Students are encouraged to be part of the school community and give service where their special technical skills enable them to do so.
