Design & Technology Overview

Design and Technology offers courses that engage the Technology Process as the core learning experience for students to complete outcomes of the Technology and Enterprise Learning Area. The Design and Technology Centre is a setting that encourages students to develop safe working practice, an understanding of machine usage and development of skills to manipulate a variety of tools and materials.
In Year 9 and 10 students can select courses in Jewellery, Metals, Woodwork and Mechanical Workshop.
Year 11 and 12 students can select from the following courses: Materials Design & Technology - Wood, Materials Design & Technology - Metals, Automotive Engineering & Technology and Design - Technical Graphics.
These courses emphasise the development of student’s abilities in problem solving, design, tools and materials manipulation, construction, testing and evaluation of the final product.
Students are presented with the design task to develop critical thinking and to use a variety of materials to understand the techniques used to manipulate them to solve the required task. Many students benefit through the student centred approach as ideas are created, developed and evaluated.
